Have you ever taken Spironolactone? 🤔 A lot of women have been prescribed Spiro for acne – but I’m going to let you in on a little secret about how it *actually* impacts your body 👇🏼
Spironolactone is very similar to a form of progestin that is found in some HBC’s – while it cannot be used to prevent pregnancy, it can send your body into a major “wtf” moment.
The reason that Spiro can aid in eliminating some acne (and/ or hair loss) is because spironolactone works as an androgen-suppressant – but that often comes with side effects such as:
But don’t worry, I’m not about to leave you hanging here – I have good news! Spironolactone is not the only way to clear up hormonal acne,
When it comes to clearing up hormonal acne we want to look at things like inflammation levels, gut health, hormone balance, + healthy detoxification – so 3 things you can implement right now:
⭐️ Get your sweat on – this will help encourage healthy detoxification, but make sure you shower after (or at least wash any of your acne-prone places)!
⭐️ Increase your cruciferous veggies! (Not if you have thyroid issues) or do some research into the supplement DIM
⭐️ Up your poop game! Daily BM’s are essential to gut + hormone function
If acne is something you’re struggling with, I FEEL YOU 🙃🙃 – acne is why I got into the work I do and is one of my favorite things to help my clients overcome! ✨ Comment below and let’s chat about how I may be able to support you in healing hormonal acne 🔥

I took spiro in my early 20’s. My acne was so bad that I had to a round of accutane. I had tried every natural remedy, working out, cleansing regimen, topical, anti-biotic, etc. Accutane was a last resort and it worked. After that, I was on spiro for a couple years to keep my hormonal acne at bay. My skin mostly stayed clear after I stopped taking it, but after getting cancer and going through treatment, the hormonal acne came back. It was cystic and sooo painful. After lots of failed attempts to get it under control, I went back on spiro. About 3 months in and my skin looks great. My bloodwork is fine and I’m really not having any terrible side effects.
