I believed my life would start, once my acne cleared up.
When I was in the midst of the acne, rosacea, and rashes – I looked at my life like it was on hold.
“I’ll put effort into my appearance every day once my skin is clear.”
“I’ll workout consistently when my skin is clear.”
“I’ll buy clothes that make me feel good when my skin is clear. I’ll wear sweatpants until then.”
“I’ll deserve love once my skin is clear.”
“I’ll travel once my skin is clear. I don’t want my acne to show up in all of the photos. What a waste of a trip.”
“I’ll get my shit together once my skin is clear. I’ll just lay around and wait for my skin to clear up.”
“I don’t need to work on my mental health, it’ll be fine once my skin is clear.”
And looking back, I said some really hateful and harmful things to myself.
Let me tell you what those thoughts did for me:
⚡️They created a toxic environment in my head. I wasn’t my biggest supporter. I wasn’t rooting for myself.
I was punishing myself for something that was happening in my body.
I basically told myself on a daily basis that I couldn’t have any fun until my acne went away and that my worth was in the way my skin looked.
Instead, I needed to be there for myself, promoting growth and positivity, even when it was hard.
⚡️But, what’s equally as frustrating is that they created habits that were hard to break long after the acne went away.
If you’re dealing with health stuff and you’re under this impression that you don’t have to show up for your life until you’re “better” – that’s bullshit.
I didn’t wake up one day with 0 acne and 100% motivation. It doesn’t work like that. You have to choose yourself despite whatever else may be going on.
So go on the vacations. Date the hot guy. Workout because it feels good. Go to therapy. Dress yourself up. Feel sexy.
Maybe you have to watch what you eat a little more closely or maybe you can’t skip your skincare routine right now because you’re healing, but don’t waste your life waiting.
You’re more than your body and you deserve to treat yourself like it.
