Your period is commonly referred to as your body’s monthly report card. If something is off with your period, that is a sign that something is off in your body! Missing a period happens, but it is important to pay attention to it and make sure to address the root cause so that it doesn’t create long-term issues.
Let’s talk about some reasons you might be skipping your period:
When your adrenals are working overtime in response to ongoing stress, your body can skip ovulation. This adrenal response can disrupt important hormones that are necessary to have a healthy cycle.
There’s a fine line between healthy exercise and overdoing it. When women workout too much or too intensely the combination of cortisol (stress hormone) and depleted energy reserves can prevent the body from producing the necessary sex hormones to have a healthy cycle.
A diet low in nutrients and high in stimulants (like sugar and coffee) or chemicals (like pesticides) can disrupt the body’s essential hormones as well as affect other bodily functions and systems.
Undiagnosed or ignored food sensitivities can affect the body’s ability to make necessary hormones for a healthy period and may act as a chronic stressor in the body.
When your body fat falls too low you it can cause you to miss your period. This is part of why a healthy diet and proper exercise are SO important.
Hormone imbalances due to lifestyle, genetics, and dietary factors can contribute to the loss of a period along with other symptoms like acne, weight gain/ loss, and abnormal hair growth.
The takeaway? Missing a period doesn’t always mean you are pregnant but it is always telling you something! Questions?? Hit me with ‘em 👇🏼
