There is a perfect little ecosystem living inside of your p*ssy.
Yep, that’s right.
Trillions of bacteria, fungi, and viruses have set up camp inside of your vagina, creating the vaginal microbiome.
These microorganisms work together👷♀️🦠 to keep the vagina at the perfect pH, promote mucus production so that you don’t get dry, and they work to fight off infections and diseases.
⚡️ The vaginal microbiome gets altered depending on what we expose it to. Things like semen, sweat, pregnancy, and menstruation can alter the balance, but the body is equipped and designed to handle those. They’re natural occurrences.
It isn’t designed and equipped to handle lubricants, douches, soaps, contraceptives, and antibiotics, therefor these intruders can lead to side effects and infections.
There is still so much we don’t know about the vaginal microbiome, but we do know that no owner of a vagina has the exact same makeup, and that the microbiome changes depending on what phase we’re at in our lives.
Over the next few posts we’re going to chat about vaginal health, discussing the inner workings so that you feel educated on your vagina, as well as the best practices to show it some love.
