**I want to preface this by saying, the way you choose to groom your pubic hair needs to be something that feels comfortable for you – emotionally and physically.**
After I got a staph infection from shaving and then sitting on the side of a pool about 30 minutes later 🤦♀️ (Yes, I do have a lot of horror stories. A lot of women do??? Its why I do what I do. #blessed), I became pretty damn passionate about pubic hair care…
Pubic hair reduces friction (hellooooo s*x), protects the vulva from sweat, bacteria, and wicks discharge. But just like the hair on our head, your pubic hair needs some TLC too.🧖🏼♀️💅
Here’s your cheat sheet to pubic hair care/ aftercare:
Cleaning – Use a mild, unscented soap and water. There’s no need for anything else (unless your medical provider tells you otherwise)!
Soften/ moisturizer – Oil! (Me recommending oil???? Who’s surprised!!!) I love @cocokindskincare chia seed oil or @furoil
Shaving – If you shave, make sure to do so in the direction of the follicles. Use a shaving cream and exfoliate with something gentle like a wash rag.
TAKE. YOUR. TIME.
Avoiding ingrown hairs – If you’re getting ingrown hairs, it is likely you’re not exfoliating enough! Make sure that is part of your routine but do so gently!!!
Laser – After a lot of issues with waxing and sensitivity to shaving this was the route I took and I’m really glad I did! It felt no worse than waxing and I love how soft the hairs were afterwards.
Razor burn, itching, folliculitis – Stop shaving/ waxing/ or whatever else you might be doing! Give the skin time to calm down. Make sure you’re moisturizing, exfoliating, and cleaning properly. If this continues or concerns you don’t hesitate to see your medical provider!
Waxing/ sugaring – Sugaring is typically considered better for more sensitive skin. It is a matter of tolerance, but the above all still applies! Especially moisturizing after.
Proper grooming aftercare – Avoid the gym, pool, intimacy, or anything of the like for at least a few hours after shaving/ waxing/ etc. Keep it clean afterwards!
