Your thyroid is a gland that sits at the base of the front of your neck and how well it functions has a direct impact on your cycle wellness, overall health, and sex drive. Meaning your body has a closely related thyroid and menstrual health connection. Your thyroid is responsible for producing hormones T3 and T4, and that process is managed by a hormone called TSH that is produced by the pituitary gland 🧠
⚡️ When we’re dealing with an underachieve thyroid (hypothyroid) it can cause absent/ irregular menstruations or very heavy menstruations as well as a decrease in fertility.
⚡️ When we’re dealing with an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroid) it can cause missing periods and a decrease in fertility.
The hormones produced by the thyroid manage energy and metabolism and they play a role in digestion, weight, mood, hair health, and libido – just to name a few.
In fact, some research has shown that 46% of women with a thyroid disorder also experience sexual dysfunction.
👉🏼 One way that we can support our thyroid health is through eating specific foods that are high in things like iodine, zinc, and fats.
Do you eat any of these foods regularly? Tell me in the comments! And if you want to learn more about how to support your hormones, menstrual health, etc. through nutrition, check out my course: Hormone Happy Eats!
