Bone broth is *absolutely* that bitch for gut health. It is one of my favorite tools for supporting the gut. It’s worth the hype, but something that is not talked about enough is: that if you are new to your gut healing journey and/ or if you are struggling with digestive issues, the bone broth could actually be making your symptoms worse.
Bone broth is a high histamine food, which basically means it can trigger an inflammatory response. If you are someone who struggles with gut issues, or digestive issues, you may struggle with histamines more than somebody who has a healthier gut. If your gut is in this vulnerable state and adding in high histamine foods, it can actually cause a symptom flare-up.
If you are new to your gut health journey, I actually recommend starting with a stock because it is not cooked as long and therefore it doesn’t have a high histamine response. It’s only cooked for a couple of hours, whereas bone broth can be cooked for 24+ hours.
After you are doing well with your gut health and seeing improvements with stock, then you can move to broth (chicken, vegetable, beef, etc.), and then move into bone broth after that.
