I am a Holistic Health Practitioner, energy healer, podcaster, Atlanta local, period expert, sexual health educator, and so much more.
I get a lot of questions about hormone testing and let’s be clear that I’m never going to discourage testing your hormones or doing bloodwork in general to see what’s going on under the hood!
But if I’m not sleeping, not fueling my body well, not exercising, not supporting my gut health, taking HBC/ antibiotics/ spiro, and/ or not managing stress – I’m not going to go testing my hormones and expect them to be in a functional range, because I KNOW they’re going to be out of whack.
I often see testing used as the first step for understanding hormone health & while testing can be really helpful to rule out the big/ scary things (thyroid issues, autoimmune diseases, etc), I personally ignore anything else until my foundations are solid and have been for 3+ month.
For example, a lot of womxn will test right after they get off the pill and their hormones may look like they have PCOS. Well, we can have “post-pill PCOS” that isn’t actually PCOS.
As your coach (not your doctor), we’re always going to work on those foundational pieces because the body doesn’t have a chance at being balanced until we’ve got sleep/ nutrition/ exercise/ etc down + consistent!
When those things are in check, we have a better chance of seeing what’s ACTUALLY going on in the body, rather than just seeing the results of poor lifestyle choices.
So if you’re curious about hormone testing, my personal plan looked something like:
⭐️ Worked with my PCP to do a general wellness checkup and tested gut health
⭐️ Got the wellness foundations down and showed up to them consistently for 3-6 months
⭐️ Looked into DUTCH test + others for a deeper look at hormone health
If this concept of “wellness foundations” feels totally foreign to you – I’m opening up my calendar for Wellness Audits!
During these calls we will dig into what’s going on for you and together we’ll pinpoint 3-5 action items and how to implement them in phases over the next few months in a way that feels easy and sustainable to you.
