A not-so-obvious period problem that you DON’T have to put up with is the Period Headache.
I recently worked with a client who described her periods as really heavy and was concerned about the blood loss and clots. I asked her if she was noticing any other period problems and she listed cramps and fatigue.
I will often pull out a very LONG list of potential period problems when working with clients to make sure that we have a full picture of what’s going on. As soon as I read out headaches, she said “Oh my god YES. They’re SO bad right before my period that I can’t even get out of bed.” 🤯
Identifying this told us so much more about what was happening in her cycle and gave us even more direction to help her address the root cause.
Hormone headaches are disregarded because headaches are so common, but they can be really crippling and no one deserves to have to deal with that shit. 👏🏼
⚡️Low blood sugar (due to underrating or malabsorption)
⚡️The drop in hormones prior to menstruation
⚡️Poor gut health
⚡️Heavy blood loss
⚡️Loss of appetite
⚡️Feelings of depression/ anxiety
⭐️Avoiding certain foods that may trigger headaches such as sugar, gluten, caffeine, and alcohol
⭐️Supporting gut health with good sources of fiber, probiotic-rich foods such as sauerkraut, and bone broth
⭐️Looking into supplements/ herbs such as magnesium, omega-3’s, and feverfew
⭐️Reducing stress – yeah, easier said than done I know I know, but I love teaching my clients fun and manageable stress management tips
⭐️Sleeping enough (see my posts on why getting 8 hours is CRUCIAL) 🔥My hottest advice is to keep a headache journal where you keep track of when you’re having them to see if you can find out why. This is the very first thing I ask clients to do when they aren’t sure of triggers.
