Today, I want to dive deep into the world of sauerkraut and its incredible benefits for our gut health. I’m a sauerkraut girlie through and through – I’ve always loved the taste, but when I learned the benefits of sauerkraut (along with other fermented foods), I was SOLD ✅ So, let’s explore why sauerkraut is not only delicious but also a must-have addition to our hormone-balancing journey.
According to a report published in Functional Foods in Health and Disease, it was found that a 2 tbsp serving of sauerkraut could meet our daily probiotic needs and they called it a “probiotic superfood” This was mindblowing for me. 🤯 Not only does sauerkraut provide us with a significant dose of probiotics, but these beneficial bacteria also have a higher chance of surviving the digestive system compared to other sources.
Many of you might be wondering if sauerkraut alone is enough to meet our probiotic requirements. Well, research indicates that if we’re consuming enough sauerkraut, we may not need to take probiotic capsules additionally. A single gram of sauerkraut contains anywhere between 1,000 to 100 million colony-forming units (CFUs) of probiotics, whereas probiotic supplements can range from 1 to 50 billion CFUs per dose (PMC6117398). However, depending on your goals, you may consider including a probiotic with strains that target specific symptoms.
