Your digestive tract runs from your mouth to your butthole. Lets talk about How to Support Your Gut Health with Food.
It is an intricate system of different organs and many moving parts.
Your gut supports the immune system and hormone production, along with lots of other things, but it has to be supported by our lifestyles and actions to be able to function properly.
Proper nutrition can make or break digestive health because it can affect the natural balance of the microbiome.
So the good news is that you don’t have to go out and drop mad cash on probiotics or digestive enzymes because you can support your gut health through foods!
⚡️ Kefir – Coconut kefir, water kefir, or goat-milk kefir are all packed with good bacteria
⚡️ Broth – Chicken broth, beef broth, turkey broth, or bone broth work to soothe digestion and protect the gut lining. Ideally, try to have 1 cup of broth with every meal – or supplement with bone broth protein (in powder or capsules)
⚡️ Sauerkraut + Kimchi – Fermented veggies are one of the best sources of good bacteria
⚡️ Sourdough – Another fermented foods that supports good bacteria and also serves as a prebiotic, meaning that it is “food” for the good bacteria
⚡️ Psyllium Husk – Fiber encourages healthy bowel movements and psyllium is a great source of probiotics, also helpful for IBS symptoms
🍌 Bananas – Prebiotic source that has been proven to increase good gut bacteria and can help to reduce bloating and digestive discomfort
⚡️ Garlic – Antibacterial and antifungal, garlic can help keep “bad” bacteria under control
⚡️ Ginger – Anti-inflammatory and can help to increase stomach acid production aiding in proper digestion, also helpful for settling an upset stomach and can reduce acid reflux symptoms
⚡️ Olive Oil – A fat that is digested well in the system, the polyphenols can aid in digestion and it has been shown that olive oil may reduce gut inflammation
Try to incorporate at least one of these foods into your diet each day and notice how your digestion improves!
