Experiencing hair loss after hormonal birth control (HBC)?
Unfortunately, hair loss is a symptom that can happen after getting off of hormonal birth control. However, hair loss doesn’t usually show up for ~3 months after we ditch hormonal birth control.
Well, our hair makes “decisions” that we may not see the impacts of for 2-3 months.
When something causes us to lose hair – hormonal birth control, stress, nutrient deficiencies, etc – it pushes the hair into a telogen phase. This means that right then and there it has already been predetermined that the hair will fall out roughly 100 days later no matter what.
This is why it is common for SO many people to experience hair loss almost exactly 3 months after getting off of hormonal birth control! (if the system isn’t supported well)
Coming off of hormonal birth control is a big shift in your system and hormonal imbalances such as excess androgens or low progesterone or estrogen can lead to hair loss.
If you are currently on hormonal birth control and are looking to avoid losing hair when getting off of HBC, my biggest tip is to prep the body! If we can spend 2-3 months boosting our system, we may be able to avoid or minimize hair loss.
Here are a of few my tips to avoid hair loss after ditching hormonal birth control:
