PSA: 📢You can still use natural birth control methods with an irregular cycle📢
Calee Shea, INHC, HHP, discusses using the FAM (fertility awareness method) if you experience irregular cycles.
FAM stands for the Fertility Awareness Method and it is a method of tracking cycle information to make informed decisions about your fertility. The specific method (called the symptothermal method) that I teach and practice has a +99.4% effectiveness rate.
The most common objection I hear when I mention FAM accuracy rates is:
“But I have PCOS!” or “Yeah maybe this is great if you have a regular cycle but this won’t work for me”
I’m here to lovingly tell you that you’ve gotten warped information (I know, I know, shocking that we learned inaccurate info about our bodies😉)
Let me explain why!
A major reason for the belief that FAM is only for perfect cycles is because it inaccurately gets grouped in with the Rhythm Method also known as the Calendar Method, which I do NOT recommend and is not reliable.
FAM Method ≠ Rhythm or Calendar Method
Calee teaches the symptothermal method of FAM that uses your body’s biological signs like BBT and CM to predict and confirm the fertile window.
The symptothermal method of FAM requires you to note date points such as:
So if you have PCOS, irregular cycles, amenorrhea, or another period/ hormone condition – you can STILL effectively learn and practice FAM!
