I don’t encourage the use of Hormonal Birth Control. In fact, I think in most cases, it does so much more harm than good. But I also know that a lot of women use it and so if you choose to go the Hormonal Birth Control route, education is crucial. I encourage you to lookup drug interactions (and side effects) and make sure you know what you can and can’t take. Let’s talk about 5 Things That Can Change The Way Your Body Absorbs The Pill.
But what about other things that can affect the pill? Here’s 5 odd things that can change the way your body absorbs the pill:
⚡️ St. John’s Wort – This is often times used for depression and anxiety relief. The herb stimulates certain enzymes in the body to break down estrogen quickly, which in turn can diminish the effects of the pill.
⚡️Melatonin – The pill encourages the pineal gland to make more melatonin. Women who supplement with additional melatonin may be at risk for altering the balance of the body’s entire hormone system, lowering the effectiveness of the pill.
⚡️ Activated Charcoal – It isn’t just the pill that can be affected by Activated Charcoal. It decreases the effectiveness of over 200 drugs/ supplements. It can absorb the active ingredients in the pill before the body can, making it less effective.
This is one the main things I encourage women to look into when they want to come off the pill!
⚡️ Grapefruit – The enzymes in grapefruit interfere with the breakdown of different medicines and estrogen. It is suggested that because of this, grapefruit can increase the side effects of estrogen and create greater PMS symptoms.
⚡️ Digestive Problems – In the case of diarrhea, IBS, or Crohn’s disease, the body may not have enough time to break down the pill before the digestive system gets the chance to absorb it. If you have a digestive disorder, it is likely that the pill isn’t a great choice for you!
